Manchester City won the Treble last season – but Danny Murphy believes the team could struggle in 2023/24.

Pep Guardiola is looking ahead to the new campaign and on Sunday it’s the curtain-raiser – the Community Shield against Arsenal.

It’s a chance to set the tone.

And City will want to do that, to let everyone know they are ready to go again.

City are the favourites for the Premier League once again.

But in the eyes of Murphy, there is one key thing that could actually contribution to some struggles.

Danny Murphy says Manchester City could struggled due to ‘complacency’

Murphy was speaking on talkSPORT this morning about the upcoming season, and who will be challenging for the title.

He reckons that the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United will be up there in contention.

And he does not feel that it will be a one horse race.

He said: “Personally I think Arsenal, United and Liverpool will get in the top four. I think it’s going to be really tight

I think City’s biggest problem is complacency. Their biggest problem is going to be complacency because they just won the Treble.”

There is no way Pep Guardiola will allow complacency

If Pep Guardiola catches wind of these comments by Murphy, he will probably burst out laughing.

Since the Spaniard has been at the helm at the Etihad, City have been absolutely relentless.

Of course, there have been patches of poor form here and there.

But Pep’s City squad has always been motivated and professional, which comes from him.

He would never, ever let complacency creep into his work.

The fact City won the Treble last season will mean the player are hungrier than ever, if anything. Pep will be demanding his players to follow it up with another.
