‘They don’t even need him’: Pundit says Man City are about to make an utterly pointless signing

Anton Ferdinand has expressed his surprise at Manchester City seriously trying to Josko Gvardiol this summer.

Speaking on the FIVE YouTube channel, the well-known pundit gave his honest opinion about the potential transfer.

According to Anton Ferdinand, Manchester City are in no need of signing Josko Gvardiol, which is why he is surprised about their interest in his signature.

Anton Ferdinand thinks Josko Gvardiol to Manchester City would be a futile transfer

Branded as ‘phenomenal’ by Mateo Kovacic, the RB Leipzig centre-back is already considered as a talent that could become the best in the world in his position.

Especially during the 2022 World Cup, the 21-year-old put his name on the map as a rare talent, considering how stupendous of a pure defender as well as an elite passer and ball-carrier that he is.

However, Anton Ferdinand clearly does not understand the logic behind why Manchester City are even trying to sign Josko Gvardiol.

“They don’t even need him! When he [Nathan Ake] played in a three, he was the left-sided centre-back.”

“I’m going to go, a seven [out of 10], just based on the fact that he’s going to have to learn a lot like every player that comes in their first year ain’t always top, so I’m going to go a seven.”

Manchester City most certainly need to bring in the Croatian defender

Considering it was reported as far back in March that Aymeric Laporte could end up leaving Manchester City, one struggles to understand why Anton Ferdinand believes the club do not need to sign the highly-rated wonderkid.

In June, it was claimed by The Athletic that Pep Guardiola planned to stick with his current system of playing four-centre-backs in defence next season.

As a result, the Sky Blues need five defenders at their disposal going into the following campaign and with the potential arrival of Gvardiol, they could be bringing in a generational talent.

If anything, the failure to sign Josko Gvardiol would be a huge blow for the club, considering how much his arrival is necessary.
