‘They have’… Sir Jim Ratcliffe shares what he thinks about how Man City operate behind the scenes

Sir Jim Ratcliffe admits Manchester United have a “lot to learn” from Manchester City in terms of how they operate.

The British billionaire has also claimed that he wishes for United to “smash” City on the field instead of seeing them getting found guilty by the Premier League regarding their alleged 115 financial breaches.

Ultimately, the expectation from the Old Trafford faithful would be for Sir Jim Ratcliffe to ensure that the Red Devils are run similarly to elite clubs like Manchester City, as exemplified by their appointment of Omar Berrada as their CEO.

However, for the past decade, most clubs in world football would perhaps set their sights on operating as the Sky Blues have.

Apart from the fact that the club have an elite manager like Pep Guardiola at their disposal and several world-class players, the same can be said about other teams in Europe.

The only difference is that City have been consistently excellent and it seems like the club is focused on winning at all times.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Sir Jim Ratcliffe admitted that Manchester United can take lessons from how Manchester City function behind the scenes.

“We have a lot to learn from our noisy neighbour and the other neighbour”, the 71-year-old claimed.

“But they are the enemy at the end of the day.”

“There is nothing I would like better than to knock both of them from their perch. They have sensible organisations, great people within the organisations, a good, driven and elite environment that they work in. I am very respectful of them but they are still the enemy.”

Manchester City are the gold standard

Such an admission from Sir Jim Ratcliffe is an insight into how much he admires the work Manchester City have done, despite admitting in the interview that he has been a lifelong Manchester United supporter.

Imagine a senior figure at United making a similar admission during the majority of Sir Alex Ferguson’s time at the club.

Rivalries aside, it is impossible to deny that City are arguably the best-run club in the world and Sir Jim Ratcliffe realises that.
