Despite taking 22 shots, Manchester City could not breach Inter Milan’s defence as they had to settle for a 0-0 draw in their Champions League opener on Wednesday night.
Considering City were playing at the Etihad Stadium, they would have backed their chances of getting the all-important three points against Simone Inzaghi’s side.
However, Inter Milan shut the hosts out and put in a defensive masterclass to take home a well-earned point.
Pep Guardiola’s men chased a victory until the dying embers of the contest.
But it was not to be due to their wasteful finishing and in fairness, the Sky Blues can count their lucky stars that the visitors did not capitalise on the number of dangerous counter-attacks they had in the game.
Manchester City will now have to wait until next month to return to winning ways in the Champions League when they face Slovan Bratislava.

Henry names attribute Kane has that Man City star lacks after Inter Milan draw
Ahead of the clash, Erling Haaland would have been fancied to put in yet another masterful display.
But Jamie Carragher described Haaland’s showing as “quiet” against Inter Milan.
The 24-year-old did not have a game to remember as he was on the periphery of things.
The £51 million man will now be determined to bounce back against Arsenal on Sunday.
But as things stand, the Norwegian international remains scoreless after his first outing in the Champions League this season.
After Manchester City drew to Inter Milan, Thierry Henry claimed that unlike Harry Kane, Haaland is unable to drop deep and make things happen with the ball at his feet.
On CBS Sports, Henry said: “I don’t think he can, no. Go in the middle and play like [Harry] Kane can do. Right now, no.”
“I think he can improve. Right now, he can’t do that.”
Micah Richards replied: “No but he doesn’t need to do that.”
Henry said: “He will, he doesn’t need [to], City are always on the ball with wingers, you don’t often need to do that. I was just making a point that right now, I don’t think he can do that. He will eventually one day do that but right now, he cannot.”
Erling Haaland and Harry Kane are two very different strikers
Every time Haaland did drop deep against Inter Milan, his first touch was flawless and so was his passing.
The Leeds-born striker’s role in the side to stay up the pitch and occupy centre-backs unlike Kane, who is provided the license to drop several yards back away from the goal and get on the ball.
The Bayern Munich talisman is not an outlet like Haaland and as a result, he cannot impact games when trying to run in behind defences or remain stationed inside the opposition box.
While the Manchester City marksman looks comfortable in possession when dropping deep, he is not as proficient at doing so in comparison to Kane.
Ultimately, both players possess vastly different profiles and as a result, it is futile to compare them.
Both strikers impact games in different ways that suit their respective teams.
