Toni Kroos now comments on his future after surprise Manchester City transfer links

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has been speaking about his future, with the player having surprisingly been linked with Manchester City towards the back end of last year.

The 34-year-old’s contract at the Bernabeu is expiring in the summer, and there is a chance that he could be moving on.

Kroos joined Real back in 2014 from Bayern Munich, and has enjoyed a glittering stint at the Spanish giants, helping the club to win a plethora of trophies while becoming one of the finest midfielders in the world in the process.

Kroos is coming to the end of his playing career now, but there has been no indication he’s ready to call it a day just yet. Carlo Ancelotti did say earlier in the season that retirement was a possibility for the player.

Yesterday evening though, ahead of Real’s Champions League last 16 clash with RB Leipzig, the veteran shared where his head is currently at regarding his future…

Kroos has still been a key player for Real this season, making 31 appearances across all competitions.

The maestro has still been at the top of his game, and there is hope among their fans that he will end up signing a new deal.

Speaking about his situation on Monday night, he said (via Forbes): “I don’t know, really. I’m glad that so many people want me to continue. There is no decision [made yet].

“Those are all the problems I have. I have not made either decision.

“I want to finish my career at a very high level. I am the same as I was a year ago. We will see. I want to make the right decision. I do. The national team is a possibility, but I haven’t decided anything.”

City were linked with free swoop

It was claimed by Defensa Central back in October that City manager Pep Guardiola was keen on a potential end-of-season swoop for Kroos if he was going to become a free agent.

The publication suggested the Spaniard would be going in for Kroos, and perhaps now that Kalvin Phillips has left there could be room for him. The expectation is that the England international will not come back to City after his loan move to West Ham United.

Kroos has said he wants to finish his career at ‘a very high level’ and with City a truly dominant force in football these days, perhaps he is someone to keep an eye on this summer.

Pep, of course, has worked with Kroos before at Bayern Munich, so maybe it is not out of the question.

It would be unlike City to sign someone of his age. But Kroos is still shining for Real and perhaps he’ll fancy a crack at the Premier League to test himself.
