Troy Deeney has explained why Erling Haaland is a better fit at Manchester City than Harry Kane.
The Birmingham City captain had his say on one of football’s biggest debates, mostly focusing on the £51.2 million (Sky Sports) man, as he featured on the latest episode of FilthyFellas.
While many believe that considering Harry Kane bagged 30 Premier League goals in a poor Tottenham side, he would outscore Erling Haaland at Manchester City, Troy Deeney disagrees.
Troy Deeney explains why Harry Kane could not outscore Erling Haaland at Manchester City
Nedum Onuoha recently claimed that it ‘frustrates’ him how several fans and pundits alike are trying to undermine the 22-year-old’s record-breaking season.
Now, Troy Deeney has explained why in his opinion, Erling Haaland would do better numbers than Harry Kane at Manchester City.

“It’s just my opinion. Him [Harry Kane] dropping in as he does…Kevin’s [De Bruyne] going, ‘move out of my way.’ [Ilkay] Gundogan’s going, ‘get out of my space.’ You need to be a special type of person to just stay on the line and your job is to stretch is to let these players have the ball.”
Troy Deeney has now explained what Erling Haaland adds to this Manchester City side that perhaps Harry Kane would be unable to, saying, “So, if you watch Haaland’s game, he makes about 15, 20 runs, never gets the ball. He never moans. He just [makes the run], that’s my job.
“Remember City when they had [Raheem] Sterling, it was chop, chop, chop, chop. Now they go wide and it’s like boom! Because he’s going to be there and more times, he’s going to be 1v1.”
“And if you hit the area, he’s probably going to be there. Look where he ends up, he’s in the penalty box and he’s two yards, either side. That’s it, because he knows he can make the back, he knows he can make the front. But if you watch him, he’s always in the penalty box.”
Troy Deeney hits the nail on the head
Considering Manchester City lost the likes of two specialist outlets in Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus in the summer, Troy Deeney is right to emphasise how a player that thrives playing on the last line like Erling Haaland suits this side a lot more than Harry Kane.
While Kane may be a more complete all-round striker than Haaland, the latter’s ability to find space behind and burst past opponents due to his sheer athleticism has made City a threat in transition as well.
The fact that the England skipper is a more natural fit than the youngster is perhaps to his detriment, as the latter possessing such a different profile to the rest is the dynamic that was often missing last season and makes this Sky Blues side a lot more dangerous than before.
