Alan Shearer lavished praise upon Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson Moraes for his impressive outing against Manchester United.

In his Premier League Team of the Week, the popular pundit opted for the £35 million (Eurosport) man in net on Sunday.

Now, Alan Shearer lauded Ederson for his performance in between the sticks for Manchester City as they beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Alan Shearer raves about ‘excellent’ Ederson after Manchester City defeat Manchester United

Branded as ‘incredible’ by Andy Townsend, the 30-year-old’s highlight moment emerged in the first-half after he kept a stinging effort from Scott McTominay out in heroic fashion.

In possession, the Brazilian international was as spectacular as ever, taking a number of United’s players out of the game to allow City to foray forward effortlessly.

Alan Shearer noted this about Ederson as he played a crucial role in Manchester City beating Manchester United on derby day.

“Two great saves and his distribution was typically excellent”, he said.

Ederson is far too underappreciated by the masses

It was nice to see Alan Shearer hail Ederson as his role in Manchester City being the best team in the world often does not get the credit it deserves as he was typically phenomenal once again up against Manchester United.

For starters, in the past, the decorated goalkeeper has often received pelters for his shotstopping.

While the criticism has been deserved at times, Ederson has upped his game significantly in this respect, especially as he showcased during the Champions League’s knockout rounds last season.

On the other hand, the former Benfica No.1’s distribution is acknowledged as elite.

But just because Ederson has raised the bar for ball-playing goalkeepers does not mean this facet of his game is not applauded at all times.

Since joining City in 2017, the treble-winner has been magnificent in this respect and is simply the greatest of all time with the ball at his feet.

It is high-time Ederson is lauded for how key he is to this Manchester City juggernaut’s sustained dominance.
