It has been reported that Barcelona are in talks to sign Joao Cancelo from Manchester City.

This comes from talkSPORT, after it was claimed on Tuesday that Xavi’s side were planning to use some of the budget from Ousmane Dembele’s potential move to PSG to fund the £60 million (Telegraph) man’s arrival.

Now, it seems Barcelona have come the closest they have all summer in terms of getting a transfer over the line for Joao Cancelo.

Barcelona in talks to wrap up Joao Cancelo transfer

Branded as ‘sensational’ by Phil Foden via City’s official website, there is no questioning the Portuguese full-back’s incredible pedigree and quality.

On the other hand, a report in July has revealed that Pep Guardiola has no intention to give the 29-year-old a second chance at the Etihad Stadium after a widely reported rift between the pair.

Now, it has indeed been claimed that Barcelona are in talks to wrap up a deal involving Joao Cancelo this summer.

From Manchester City’s perspective, it is believed that their priority remains to strike a permanent deal instead of merely sending him on yet another loan.

Joao Cancelo leaving would be best for all parties involved

If Barcelona do manage to sign Joao Cancelo on a permanent basis, all parties involved can leave the deal with a smile on their face.

First things first, City would be buzzing to get a player off their books who Guardiola seemingly has no desire to work with anymore and one who does not fit their tactical plans of playing centre-backs in defence.

For Cancelo himself, he could get a chance to start at one of the best teams in Europe.

While on Sunday, it was reported that Xavi ‘pushed’ for the decorated defender’s signature and as a result, him and his side would get their hands on their dream target.
