Manchester City beat RB Leipzig 3-1 in the Champions League last night – and Women’s captain Steph Houghton hailed Bernardo Silva during his comeback.

City got the job done in the end, after being pegged back in the game.

Phil Foden put City ahead after fine work from Rico Lewis.

But Lois Openda stunned City, scoring on the break straight after half-time.

Julian Alvarez – on as a substitute – changed the game though for City, scoring a ‘magical’ curling effort into the top corner, before setting up Jeremy Doku.

It was a good, professional job from City, especially with Openda getting Leipzig back level.

And one big positive of the night was the performance of Bernardo, who was featuring in his first game back after injury…

It was great to see Bernardo back in the starting line up last night.

He had missed the last few games, after being taken off in City’s Champions League opener against Red Star Belgrade.

It was somewhat surprising to see him start.

But Bernardo looked great on his return, and Houghton praised him.

She said: “He’s just technically unbelievable. When he’s got someone so close to him who’s trying to get the ball off him – his footwork is just… he’s able to get out of spaces and link up with other people. I think that’s why Pep trusts him so much, pretty much anywhere on the pitch. When he gets the ball he hardly ever loses it.”

Huge boost Bernardo is back

City having Bernardo back is huge news.

For him to have gotten minutes in the legs before Arsenal as well was really key.

And there were few signs of rust for the £43 million star really, which will delight Pep.
