Alan Shearer believes Phil Foden has become “undroppable” for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side after his masterful display against Brentford.
After the 23-year-old’s decisive hat-trick in City’s 3-1 win at the Gtech Community Stadium, Pep Guardiola went as far as to say that he is ready to take over from Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva in midfield one day.
Tottenham Hotspur creator James Maddison also commented, “Brilliant mate” on his post-match Instagram post.
Alan Shearer says Phil Foden has become “undroppable” for Manchester City
Phil Foden has started 20 out of 22 games in the Premier League this campaign.
For context, in the 2020/2021, 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 seasons, the Englishman started 17, 24 and 22 league games respectively, which emphasises how much more valued he is by Pep Guardiola at this point.
After Phil Foden singlehandedly demolished Brentford on Monday, Alan Shearer sang his praises and claimed that he has become “undroppable” as far as Manchester City go.

“What a player Phil Foden is, man”, he wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“Sensational! He’s adding goals to his game and is simply undroppable on this form”, Shearer added as he picked Foden in his Premier League Team of The Week.
Pep Guardiola also heaped praise on the £225,000-a-week (Sport Rac) man after the clash, highlighting how he is having his best-ever season in a Manchester City shirt.
The five-time Premier League winner also revealed after his hat-trick that in his eyes, the reason why he has been getting goals and assists galore is due to playing more centrally.
Manchester City cannot afford to drop Phil Foden
In the odd game, perhaps Pep Guardiola may refuse to listen to Alan Shearer and give Phil Foden a breather.
But more often than not, Manchester City cannot afford to have the decorated technician tuning into proceedings from the sidelines.
Both in terms of his form and his importance in a variety of positions, Foden has just become indispensable to this City side and will especially be relied upon during the ongoing second half of the season.
