Jamie Carragher has compared John Stones to his England teammate, Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The pundit claimed that much like Alexander-Arnold, the Manchester City centre-back also has a “unique” style of play during a video with CBS Sports (via YouTube).

In April, Jamie Carragher heaped praise on John Stones for how well he had adapted to his much-discussed hybrid role after the Qatar World Cup.

Chelsea sensation Cole Palmer also hailed the English centre-half as an “amazing player” while picking him in his dream five-a-side team.

In November, Pep Guardiola admitted that his current system is fully dependent on the former Everton defender’s availability while describing him as an “intelligent” player.

While selecting his EA FC 24 Team of The Year, Jamie Carragher opted for John Stones in the centre of defence.

“Kate [Abdo], I’m going to inform you that we’re going to go for John Stones. Treble-winner!”, he said on CBS Sports.

Jamie Carragher went on to liken John Stones to Trent Alexander-Arnold saying, “We’ve got John Stones, who’s again, unique like Trent [Alexander-Arnold] on that right-back position, goes into midfield, not like a normal centre-back.”

John Stones and the Liverpool defender have been similarly misunderstood

Jamie Carragher raises an interesting point by likening John Stones to Trent Alexander-Arnold, considering how one-of-a-kind both players are.

Being defenders, both have often been lambasted for being too focused on getting on the ball instead of sticking to the orthodox merit of clearing it when there is any sign of danger from the opposition.

Having faced plenty of stick at young ages, John Stones and Trent Alexander-Arnold have managed to prove their critics wrong by emerging as pioneers for future generations.

In some ways, the English pair have been ahead of their time and for Manchester City and Liverpool respectively, who have been the two best teams in the country for the majority of the last few years, they have been hugely valuable assets.
