This summer will be an extremely important transfer window for Manchester City.

2024/25 has been a season full of struggles for Manchester City, who are still in a big battle to secure Champions League football.

But the hope is that City will finish the season the right way, by securing Champions League football and also beating Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final.

Then it will be time for Hugo Viana to get to work rebuilding the squad, with a number of players needing to move on.

The biggest exit at City this summer will no doubt be Kevin De Bruyne.

De Bruyne announced a few weeks ago that he’s leaving Manchester City when his contract expires, which saddened many fans.

De Bruyne said that Man City did not even offer him a new contract, which angered some.

It will be an almost impossible task replacing the Belgian maestro.

There is one man who might be up to the task – but it’s now starting to look like Pep Guardiola could miss the boat.

It has been reported that a verbal agreement has almost been reached between Bayern Munich and Florian Wirtz, in what is a significant development about the German.

Wirtz is a player who has been on City’s radar for a long time now.

Manchester City News was recently informed that City see Wirtz as ‘a generational talent’, and that the club were willing to spend big.

Wirtz was even said to be open to a move.

But seemingly, there is real work to do now, with Bayern having leapfrogged City in the race and ironically, City legend Vincent Kompany could genuinely now stop the club from making one of their most important signings in many years.

As City fans know full well, a huge amount of creativity is going out of the team this summer in the form of De Bruyne.

De Bruyne has been an output machine over the years for City, making 177 assists in 417 games and scoring 107 goals.

Wirtz is clearly an ideal long-term replacement, given the fact that he takes up similar positions and has great goals and assists numbers.

For Bayer Leverkusen, he’s scored 56 goals and made 63 assists in 194 appearances by the age of 21. Those numbers are made even more remarkable when you factor in the torn ACL he picked up in March 2022.
