It has been claimed that Vincent Kompany is almost guaranteed to become the manager of Manchester City at some point.
Pep Guardiola has mentioned previously that in his eyes, the Burnley boss will take over the role at the Etihad Stadium one day.
It seems as if the Manchester City manager may well be right, as Sam Lee has explained on the Athletic Football Podcast why Vincent Kompany could make his return one day.
Sam Lee says Vincent Kompany could become future Manchester City manager
Referred to as a ‘big name’ outside England in the managerial world by pundit duo Johan Boskamp and Ander van der Meyde on Voetbal Nieuws, the 36-year-old has managed to promote Burnley in what has been a remarkable season.

Now, Sam Lee has explained why Vincent Kompany could become the Manchester City manager one day.
“About 18 months ago, I was speaking to somebody, he knows Pep, he knows what’s going on at City. And he was saying, because it was coming up to Pep renewing his contract and he was saying, we were talking about who would be next. He said, ‘[Patrick] Vieira and [Mikel] Arteta would be in the frame.’
“Now obviously, how football works, Vieira now, if you would consider that, you’d think, no, absolutely not. No way. And Arteta, almost too good, you can’t get him out of Arsenal with what he’s doing. But the point being back 18 months, they hadn’t achieved anything, really.”
“But the point was they knew City and City knew them, and they had the right character. They had the right style of play, I know Crystal Palace couldn’t have a shot on target at the end but broadly speaking and in terms of the intention, they’ve got that style of play and they’ve got the intention.”
He went on to explain why Kompany could become the future Manchester City, saying, “So, if you’ve got Kompany, he’s got even more than that because Arteta was Pep’s assistant. Vieira was there as U-23s coach. Kompany was the living, breathing, City legend. It certainly makes sense and Guardiola kept saying it [that Kompany would return to the club as manager] and it probably didn’t help him but he was saying it for a reason.”
“I’m sure he’ll end up at City at some point.”
Manchester City fans will be over the moon upon hearing this news as the idea of Vincent Kompany becoming their manager one day is the stuff of dreams.
