Pep Guardiola has now revealed the extent of the injury sustained by Kevin De Bruyne against Burnley.

The Belgian playmaker’s latest injury has meant a report emerging on Sunday about the Spaniard being keen on Lucas Paqueta’s arrival as his replacement.

Now, Pep Guardiola has given a confirmation about the injury suffered by Kevin De Bruyne, as shared by Football Daily.

Pep Guardiola provides devastating Kevin De Bruyne injury update

While the Sky Blues have dealt with the 32-year-old’s absences in the past, it is also key to reinforce the fact that experienced heads like Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva stepped up during his time on the sidelines.

Currently, Manchester City only have Phil Foden in the attacking midfield position to carry the creative burden in the side.

Pep Guardiola has now confirmed that Kevin De Bruyne is set to need surgery on his injury, that is set to keep him out of action for months.

“It’s serious, the injury. We have to decide on surgery or no surgery but it will be a few months out. Surgery will be three or four months, I think so.”

This is far from ideal news for the treble-winners at the start of their new season.

Phil Foden will need to step up in the absence of Kevin De Bruyne

While the news surrounding Kevin De Bruyne and his injury delivered by Pep Guardiola is a huge blow, it is also Phil Foden’s time to shine.

Credit needs to be afforded to the Englishman for having put himself on the map so far whilst having played out of position, whether it be out wide or as a false nine.

But the Sky Blues supporters have lamented the fact that he is yet to have played in his natural position in midfield on a consistent basis.

With Guardiola having brought Foden on to replace De Bruyne in the Champions League final against Inter Milan as well, perhaps he may finally be handed the keys to run the show centrally.

Whether Phil Foden steps up to the task will be intriguing to discover.
