What £53m Manchester City player did during the summer, sources close to the club have no problem with it

Sources close to Manchester City have now made a claim about Kyle Walker after a summer of uncertainty.

It was the Daily Mail who shared the claim.

So, what was said about Manchester City and Kyle Walker? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the England international came close to leaving Manchester City for Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window.

The Daily Mail even believe that Walker discussed the potential move with Harry Kane – who did end up joining the German giants.

Sources close to Manchester City believe the £53m man was only looking out for himself during the summer after completing the treble, and it is said that the Citizens had no problem with that.

Eventually, it required an intervention from other players at Manchester City – as well as a trip for sushi with Pep Guardiola – to make Walker realise the Etihad Stadium is the place to be, according to the Daily Mail.

The 33-year-old has since captained Manchester City in every game this season following a serious hamstring injury to Kevin De Bruyne in the 3-0 opening day win over Burnley.

It is testament to Walker’s professionalism that he doesn’t look a day over 25 out on the pitch – in fact, Jack Grealish believes his fellow England international is playing the best football of his career right now.

Imperative that Manchester City kept Kyle Walker

In our view, renewing Walker’s contract was the most important piece of business Manchester City did all summer.

Of course, it is nice to freshen up the squad with young talent such as Jeremy Doku and Josko Gvardiol, but experience is absolutely vital.

After losing Ilkay Gundogan, Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte, Guardiola could ill afford to let another experienced player depart in Walker.

The decision to hand him a new two-year contract is now looking like a masterstroke.

Hopefully, Walker can keep playing this well long into his thirties, and help Manchester City collect even more silverware.
