Kevin De Bruyne has now confirmed that Kyle Walker is the captain of Manchester City – not him.
The Belgian shared the news after Sunday’s 5-0 FA Cup win over Huddersfield at the Etihad Stadium.

What De Bruyne said about the captaincy
Well, it was unclear whether the Belgium international or Walker had taken over from Ilkay Gundogan as Pep Guardiola’s captain.
The England international has now been confirmed as the outright skipper, although De Bruyne surely isn’t bothered by that based on what he said back in August.
As quoted by the Manchester Evening News, the 32-year-old said: “If I get it, I get it. It’s not going to change anything I do for the club. This is my ninth year, I know the club inside out and people know whatever they ask of me, I’ll do. I’m not too worried.
“I try to do the same as always. It’s an honour if I get it and if not, it doesn’t matter.”
A tremendous attitude – to say the least.
Some players – especially those as established as De Bruyne – may have been upset to miss out on the honour of captaining the side, even more so after nine years at the Etihad Stadium.
Nevertheless, the Belgian clearly knows just how important he is to Guardiola – whether he has an armband around his bicep or not.
Manchester City well placed to embark on another special run
It took De Bruyne just 15 minutes to register an assist on his comeback against Huddersfield, which certainly bodes well for the second half of the 2023/24 campaign.
Guardiola has made a habit of embarking on mesmeric winning runs in the backend of the season during his time at Manchester City, winning 12 consecutive Premier League outings in a row last term to knock Arsenal aside.
Therefore, with Jeremy Doku now back alongside De Bruyne – and with John Stones expected to return soon – there is no reason why history cannot repeat itself this season.
