Manchester City crashed to another chastening defeat in the Premier League – but one positive report did drop last night which supporters will take heart from.
Manchester City lost to Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium, to make it five losses in a row in all competitions. After the game, Pep Guardiola admitted City are ‘fragile defensively’.
The club is now in a mini-crisis, and Liverpool winning today against Southampton would make this a really bad weekend.
It then doesn’t bear thinking about City losing to the Reds when the clubs meet next weekend in the Premier League.

There have been calls for a rebuild and that could well happen next summer – and one report suggests that will indeed be on the cards.
Officials think Guardiola’s new contract means Man City will win case against Premier League
It’s been reported by the Mirror that officials at Manchester City believe that Guardiola signing his new contract means the club will win their case against the Premier League.
City are facing 115 charges relating to financial irregularities, with a judgment expected some time in early 2025.
This has been hanging over the club for a while now, and at this point, fans just want a verdict either way.
According to the Mirror, executives think Pep Guardiola’s new deal gives ‘a strong indication that City are winning their legal fight’. Even though Guardiola has insisted he’d stay at the club if City were punished with relegation, there is a feeling that they will win.
Guardiola is said to trust chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and chief executive Ferran Soriano ‘implicitly’.
Interestingly, it’s also claimed the incoming director of football Hugo Viana is set to receive a ‘significant’ transfer war chest for his first window.
That would point to City being able and prepared to rebuild the squad.
An encouraging claim, Man City need to rebuild
This report will make some City fans feel better after yesterday’s awful home defeat to Spurs.
It’s clear that this Ciy squad needs a rebuild, with a number of players in and around the age of 30 now and some top players no longer in their primes.
Guardiola has given the impression he’d happily stay even if City lost their case against the Premier League and got relegated. But surely, he has indeed been given assurances that the club will win. It’s certainly difficult to imagine the Manchester City manager managing in a lower division.

City need to rebuild and there’s no better man to oversee that than Guardiola, who has already done it a few times.
Having been here for nearly 10 years, his DNA is all over the club and he’ll surely have a strong idea as to the direction City need to go in in terms of getting new players.
