What Man City’s Erling Haaland was spotted doing right after 4-0 win vs Newcastle amid fresh injury concern

Manchester City’s latest 4-0 drubbing of Newcastle United was a day of immense pride for Erling Haaland as he captained the Premier League champions on Saturday.

Despite senior players like Ilkay Gundogan and John Stones starting the game as well, Haaland wore the armband as Pep Guardiola’s side returned to winning ways in style.

For once, it was not the Norwegian international who grabbed the headlines for scoring the goals, with Omar Marmoush scoring a stunning hat-trick to hand Manchester City a deserved victory.

Erling Haaland even assisted James McAtee’s late strike by heading the ball in his direction for the Salford-born midfielder to tap into the back of the net.

However, late on into the game, City supporters across the world had their hearts in their mouths as the 23-year-old seemed to have injured his knee.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker looked visibly distressed and was shortly substituted off for Matheus Nunes.

Erling Haaland spotted walking amid injury concerns after Man City vs Newcastle

This season in particular, Haaland has been Manchester City’s most important player as he has been the only player delivering in front of goal.

As a result, the prospect of losing the Leeds-born marksman to a length injury could derail the Sky Blues’ season.

However, in the aftermath of Manchester City’s thrashing of Newcastle, journalist Sam Lee shared a video of Haaland walking freely

The two-time Premier League winner did not look like he was in pain as he clapped the home fans for their incredible support once again.

Whether Haaland walking off the pitch dictates whether he is deemed fit to start against Real Madrid on Tuesday remains to be seen.

After all, as Rodri picked up an ACL injury against Arsenal, he too walked off the pitch.

As a result, whether a player walks off the pitch or not does not necessarily reflect the extent of their injury.

Luckily for Manchester City supporters, Pep Guardiola has issued a positive update around Haaland’s fitess.

After the contest, Guardiola played down any fears surrounding the knock that his star striker picked up.

Pep Guardiola said via journalist Joe Bray: “When he was down everyone was scared. He got up, walked smiling like always. I didn’t speak to him but the doctors didn’t come for bad news. Hopefully [Haaland will be fine to face Real Madrid].”

The only blow for Manchester City could be if Haaland is ruled of their upcoming clash against Real Madrid.

City’s chances of going through to the Round of 16 are already unlikely due to playing in the Spanish capital and in the event that their prolific goalscorer is named on the bench, their chances of qualifying for the next round could become virtually impossible. However, Haaland’s fitness for the remainder of the season is perhaps more important than any particular game.
