Manchester City have reportedly agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The Citizens have been heavily linked with the Italy international in recent days, with the player himself effectively bidding farewell to PSG on Tuesday evening.

RMC Sport claimed earlier on Tuesday that Man City had opened talks to sign Donnarumma amid speculation linking Ederson with Galatasaray.

Later on in the day, Donnarumma took to Instagram with a heartfelt message for the PSG fanbase after he had been frozen out by “someone” at the club.

Now, French outlet L’Equipe have dropped a bombshell regarding Donnarumma’s future, along with what City are planning to do next.

Manchester City ‘looking for the best way to approach PSG’ as Gianluigi Donnarumma agrees terms

L’Equipe, citing Italian reports, claimed that Donnarumma ‘has already spoken with Pep Guardiola and reached a contractual agreement with City management’.

The French outlet has also claimed that, ‘in recent hours, City have been looking for the best way to approach PSG’ so as not to have to pay the full price for Donnarumma.

PSG’s asking price is said to be lower than that of Lucas Chevalier, who joined for around £48million in total – £35million plus £13million in bonuses.

In addition, City are reportedly waiting for Ederson’s exit to ramp up talks with PSG.

As things stand, the Citizens are said to be ahead of Manchester United in the race for Donnarumma, as they are struggling to move Andre Onana on.

How close Manchester City came to signing Gianluigi Donnarumma’s idol

The Abu Dhabi United Group sought to get marquee signings to Manchester City very early on in their tenure.

As per an article in The Guardian back in January 2009, Italy goalkeeping legend Gianluigi Buffon was in City’s sights along with the likes of Thierry Henry and David Villa.

Mark Bowen, Mark Hughes’ former assistant at the Etihad Stadium, said in 2024 that Buffon and Man City “shook hands on everything” regarding a £400,000-a-week deal.

However, Buffon turned it down as he wanted to stay loyal to Juventus, and so the move never happened.

Now, City seem to be getting closer towards the signing of Buffon’s successor in the Italian goalkeeping pantheon.
