The Manchester City family sadly lost an iconic figure on Monday as Francis Lee passed away at the age of 79.

Tributes from all across the football world poured in for the Manchester City legend following his death after a battle with cancer.

Manchester City flew flags around the Etihad Stadium and the City Football Academy at half mast as a mark of respect after hearing the news of Lee’s passing.

Now – in training on Tuesday – Manchester City and Pep Guardiola have organised another way to express their condolences.

What’s the story?

Well – as reported by Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News – the Manchester City squad observed a moment of silence before training got underway earlier on Tuesday.

You can see a photo of the players and staff members paying their respects below.

Lee made 330 appearances in total for Manchester City – scoring 148 goals in those outings – to cement himself as a bonafide club legend.

The iconic figure then became a millionaire following the end of his playing days after setting up a successful toilet roll business, which meant he could afford to take over his beloved side as Chairman and Majority Shareholder back in 1994.

Manchester City likely to pay further respects to Francis Lee

After putting the flags around the Etihad Stadium at half mast and holding a moment of silence in training, Manchester City are likely to honour Lee once again when RB Leipzig come to visit in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

In our view, a minute’s silence – or minute’s applause – is likely to take place before kick off, while the players could also wear black armbands to show their respects.

Hopefully, Manchester City have organised something special to show Lee’s family just how highly everyone at the club thinks of him, after a truly memorable career.
