Manchester City and Pep Guardiola were humiliated by Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

And now Sheikh Mansour has a very easy decision to make.

Pep Guardiola has worked absolute wonders since taking over at Manchester City in 2016, with six Premier League titles and a Champions League amongst his immense trophy haul at The Etihad.

However, this season has been a real struggle on all fronts for the Man City manager and his players – a campaign encapsulated by the 3-1 Champions League defeat to Madrid on Wednesday night.

City were humiliated by the La Liga side. Kylian Mbappe embarrassed Josko Gvardiol by literally putting him on his backside en route to scoring a scintillating hat-trick.

The Champions League loss to Madrid was a serious wake-up call for the Cityzens.

Key men like Kevin De Bruyne are surely finished at City under Pep, after his snub for the Real Madrid clash.

And a chant the Madrid fans aimed at Pep Guardiola will leave Sheikh Mansour with nowhere to hide.

What Real Madrid fans sang to Pep Guardiola

The Santiago Bernabeu crowd were in raucous mood on Wednesday night, as their team had their way with Man City.

Pep Guardiola looked like a man who had run out of ideas as he paced up and down his technical area.

The 90 minutes against Madrid was a microcosm of City’s struggles this season.

And as Guardiola squirmed on the touchline, the Madrid fans rubbed salt into his gaping wounds.

The Los Blancos fans aimed a cheeky chant at Pep, pleading with him to STAY at The Etihad!

As ‘Guardiola stay’ rang around the Bernabeu – a sarcastic twist on the English ‘sacked in the morning’ chants – it would have been impossible for Man City’s owner not to take notice.

The Madrid fans singing that would have hurt Sheikh Mansour just as much as it did Pep.

Now Sheikh Mansour has to back Guardiola to the hilt this summer.

Despite fears of PSR rules impacting Manchester City, there are plenty of ways to strengthen the squad without paying earth shattering money.

Of course, there is a lot of work that needs to be done with the current players on Man City’s Etihad Campus training ground.

However, a big revamp is required, if City are to return to their dominant best.

It’s clear to see that Pep’s side need a huge injection of pace, energy and power in the middle of the pitch.

Manchester City also need more pace and some real quality in the attacking wide areas.

The likes of Nico Williams, Bryan Mbeumo and Martin Zubimendi would all be very useful addition for Manchester City this summer.

City spent big in January with the arrivals of four new players. However, that won’t nearly be enough if Pep is to guide his side back to the top of the tree, both domestically and on the continent.

Manchester City can save huge amounts of money by releasing the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan.

They can also raise funds by selling underperforming players like Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish.

This summer will be crucial for Manchester City’s hopes of returning to the elite table of world football, and Sheikh Mansour has to dig deep to provide Pep Guardiola with what he needs.
