Whether Manchester City could now rekindle Florian Wirtz interest after Liverpool emerge as first-choice destination

If reports are true, Manchester City target Florian Wirtz could soon be playing in the Premier League – but for Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola was said to be desperately keen on signing Wirtz as Kevin De Bruyne prepares to leave Manchester City.

However, City decided not to sign Wirtz as they reckon he’d go on to cost around £252million in total, including wages.

It looked as though Bayern Munich were favourites to sign the Germany international, but now it has been reported that Liverpool are closing in on him.

Indeed, Sacha Tavolieri has reported that, while Wirtz told City he had chosen Bayern, his camp apparently told Bayern that he will be joining Liverpool.

Ben Jacobs has now shared an update regarding whether City could rekindle their interest now it has emerged that he could be Premier League-bound.

Manchester City still unwilling to move for Florian Wirtz despite Liverpool transfer threat

In a nutshell, City’s current stance over Florian Wirtz is not changing even after the Liverpool bombshell, according to Ben Jacobs.

The transfer insider claimed that City remain out of the race for Wirtz as they remain put off by the overall cost of a deal for him.

Unlike Tavolieri’s report, which suggested Wirtz was Liverpool-bound, Jacobs said it wasn’t a done deal yet.

However, they will now formally engage with Leverkusen to try and finalise an agreement, according to the transfer insider.

And so it looks like City will not budge from their current stance on Wirtz, but it still seems like City’s primary aim remains to bolster their midfield.

As a result, Manchester City could land Tijjani Reijnders after having agreed personal terms with the AC Milan maestro.

Manchester City have also enquired about signing Rayan Cherki, who recently announced he is leaving Lyon at the end of the season.

It has also been reported that Manchester City are now ‘clear front-runners’ for Morgan Gibbs-White of Nottingham Forest.

City have a big rebuild on the cards and, with Hugo Viana and Txiki Begiristain set to work together at City this summer, it’s important to trust the process.
