Can Manchester City wear the FIFA Champions Badge if they win the FIFA Club World Cup? Some have asked on Google ahead of the tournament.
Pep Guardiola takes his side to Saudi Arabia to face either Club Leon or Urawa Red Diamonds on Sunday 19th December – after last season’s UEFA Champions League win earned the Citizens a spot in the competition.
Whoever wins the FIFA Club World Cup receives the honour of wearing a gold shirt patch, called the FIFA Champions Badge, until the next FIFA Club World Cup – as you may have seen the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid don over the years.
However, the Premier League have problems with it – as Liverpool found out in 2019.
So, can Manchester City wear the FIFA Champions Badge if they win the FIFA Club World Cup? Let’s take a look…
Can Manchester City wear the FIFA Champions Badge if they win the FIFA Club World Cup?
Sadly, the answer is actually no – in the Premier League at least.
While the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have been able to show off their status as FIFA Club World Cup champions in domestic action over the years, Manchester City are not allowed to do the same.
That is because it is against Premier League regulations to make changes to kits during the middle of a campaign – according to Football London.

Chelsea were not allowed to wear the FIFA Champions Badge in Premier League action after winning the FIFA Club World Cup in the 2021/22 campaign.
Liverpool were also blocked from wearing it in the Premier League during the 2019/20 season.
Both Chelsea and Liverpool were – however – allowed to add the badge to their kits in UEFA Champions League action, as regulations differ in European football.
If Manchester City do end up winning the FIFA Club World Cup, Guardiola’s side may also be allowed to wear the FIFA Champions Badge in the FA Cup.

However, Manchester City would need to send a formal application to the Football Association to receive permission.
In our view, it is strange that the Premier League and the FA do not celebrate one of their sides winning the FIFA Club World Cup by allowing them to show the badge off.
Nevertheless, rules are rules, and Manchester City will have to follow them – the treble winners do seem confident of winning the FIFA Club World Cup by the looks of things, however.
(Correction: The Premier League have since made the surprise decision to allow the FIFA Champions Badge to be worn by Manchester City)
