It has been reported that Chelsea are ready to sell Mateo Kovacic, with Manchester City now having the freedom to complete a transfer with relative ease.
This comes from journalist Ben Jacobs on The Football Terrace, just hours after Fabrizio Romano revealed that City were set to agree personal terms to sign the £40 million (Sky Sports) man.
Now, it seems like another reliable source has made the claim that Manchester City will be able to wrap up a transfer for Mateo Kovacic.
Ben Jacobs: Transfer for Manchester City target Mateo Kovacic is easily doable
A previous report has also claimed that Pep Guardiola in particular is a huge fan of the Croatian international.
With just one year left on the magisterial midfielder’s contract, he could well come in for either Bernardo Silva or Ilkay Gundogan, who have both been linked with summer exits.
While one awaits to see whether both or even either stay at Manchester City, it has been revealed that getting a transfer over the line for Mateo Kovacic should be a fairly easy task.

“[N’Golo] Kante and [Mateo] Kovacic, it’s clear that those moves will happen. Either because Chelsea will take the fee for Kovacic because that was always a possibility that he would go, especially now that Graham Potter’s gone, because Potter was the one who wanted to keep Kovacic with Kante.”
“The contract’s just running down, there’s nothing really that Chelsea can do.”
Manchester City can kickstart their summer business early
If Mateo Kovacic is signed by the Premier League champions relatively early, there would be no better way to kick the transfer window off.
The Sky Blues had the same approach in the summer and it has clearly yielded them excellent results.
Especially under Pep Guardiola’s reign, the ideal scenario is for any fresh face to spend as much time under his guidance to learn the workings of his system.
If not, new signings tend to struggle during their debut campaigns under Guardiola.
