As England prepare for their upcoming quarter-final clash against Switzerland at Euro 2024, John Stones’ fitness remains of utmost importance.
Stones came into the European Championship with just 12 Premier League starts under his belt due to injury — which was far from ideal for Gareth Southgate as he would have wanted to lead his country to glory in Germany.
However, Manchester City’s number five has seemingly managed to use his experience to full effect as he has impressed at the tournament but in fairness, England are yet to face a truly top side at the competition. Switzerland, however, proved in their 2-0 win against Italy that they can rightly be considered as a dark horse to go all the way.

Concerning John Stones photo revealed that could spark injury worries
Murat Yakin’s side are fearless in how they press teams and take the game to opposition — which was evident in their 1-1 draw against Germany.
If not for Niclas Füllkrug’s late equaliser, the Swiss would perhaps have earned a well-deserved victory.
So far, the Three Lions have failed to convince and unless they are on their A-game on Saturday, there is a possibility that Manuel Akanji and Co. could send them packing.
A concern for England, as shared by journalist Henry Winter is that Stones was captured training with a heavy strapping on his right leg ahead of his nation’s knockout contest against Switzerland.
Gareth Southgate will be hoping John Stones is fully fit
The concern for England boss Gareth Southgate would be if Stones can manage to be fully fit for his side’s tough test against Switzerland.
If the 30-year-old is half-fit for the contest, he could find it difficult to deal with Switzerland’s direct forwards like Breel Embolo and Ruben Vargas.
Simultaneously, if Southgate chooses to rest Stones in case he is not fit for the game, with Marc Guehi also suspended, England’s new-look backline could really struggle against the Swiss.
It will be interesting to see whether the Manchester City defender starts and if so, whether he looks typically sharp or perhaps a bit worse for wear due to the pain he seems to in currently.
