Manchester City defender Ruben Dias has been named in the GiveMeSport world XI.

The popular website included the £62 million (Sky Sports) man in their side, alongside other Sky Blues players such as Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri.

However, Ruben Dias was at the heart of the backline picked by GiveMeSport in their world XI, based on ESPN FC’s top 100 list of men’s players across the globe.

GiveMeSport name Manchester City colossus Ruben Dias in world XI

Branded as ‘fantastic’ by Jamie Carragher, the Portuguese international was unplayable for his side as they went on to win the treble.

The 26-year-old was particularly incredible after returning from injury during the business end of last season, putting in masterful displays during the Champions League in particular, against the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Inter Milan.

So much so that GiveMeSport had no choice but to name Ruben Dias in their world XI off the back of what was yet another unreal season for him.

ESPN’s number one pick goes to Manchester City’s Portuguese wall. Dias thrived in the Champions League, keeping clean sheets in matches against RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Inter.”

“That, along with City having the joint-best defence in the Premier League last campaign, makes him a worthy number one.”

Ruben Dias could go down as one of the greatest

It comes as no surprise that the three-time Premier League winner featured in the GiveMeSport world XI, as his incredible showings were backed by spearheading his team from the back to win a historic treble.

At 26 years of age, the Portuguese international has completed club football and remains one of, if not the best centre-half in the world.

As Dias enters his prime and is likely to only improve, he would have all the silverware, performances and the legacy in the game to be considered as an all-time great.

The path that the former Benfica superstar is on guarantees that he will go down in footballing folklore.
