Well, the Spaniard was eavesdropping on a conversation between his players on the flight back from Saudi Arabia, after Manchester City lifted the FIFA Club World Cup in Jeddah.
Guardiola overheard his squad already moving onto the Premier League clash against Everton – rather than resting on their FIFA Club World Cup win – which left him absolutely delighted.
The 52-year-old is quoted by the Manchester Evening News as saying: “I remember on the plane coming back from Saudi and I listened to the players when they didn’t know I was listening, and they started to talk about Everton. I said, wow this is my team.”
A winning mentality – to say the least.
It speaks volumes that Manchester City had just become World Champions, but instead of taking the celebrations onto the flight, attention immediately switched to Everton with ground to make up in the Premier League title race.
How the situation currently looks for Manchester City
Manchester City’s underwhelming form in the Premier League threatened to take a turn for the worse on Wednesday night when Jack Harrison put Everton 1-0 up.
However, the treble winners showed real courage to turn things around and secure a vital three points thanks to goals from Phil Foden – who impressed Alan Shearer – Julian Alvarez and Bernardo Silva.
Of course, the table still doesn’t look great as Manchester City find themselves five points off Liverpool in first.
Having said that, Manchester City have a game in hand, and managed to overturn an eight point gap last season when Arsenal led the Premier League, so there is no need to panic whatsoever.
