'You never know': Joao Cancelo opens door to Manchester City return after Bayern loan stint

Joao Cancelo has dropped a hint about being open to a return to Manchester City when his loan stint at Bayern Munich comes to an end.

While Guillem Balague had reported that the Portuguese full-back’s relationship with Pep Guardiola had not fully broken down, the Daily Mail’s ever-credible Jack Gaughan had reported that there was no likelihood that a return to the club was on the cards.

However, it seems as if Joao Cancelo has not closed the door to returning to Manchester City after his loan stint at Bayern.

There is no disputing that the 27-year-old’s absence has been felt by the Sky Blues, as while Nathan Ake has ably deputized in his absence, he is a centre-back by trade and lacks the attacking verve of the ex-Juventus man.

While it seemed like there was no chance that Joao Cancelo, who was loaned out to Bayern Munich all of a sudden would return to Manchester City, it seems like he may say yes to rekindling things after the season.

“Will I still celebrate a Premier League title with Manchester City? I hope so. I created a second family there. In England, I’m rooting for them and I hope they win so that at the end of the season, I can be celebrating a title in England and another in Germany”, he opened, as relayed by City Xtra.

“Manchester City’s group is spectacular, the best I’ve ever worked in. I created great friendships. I’d go to training with great enthusiasm. Everything in life has an end. But at the end of the season I might even return, you never know.”

Stranger things have happened in football but it seems highly unlikely that the love affair between Joao Cancelo and Manchester City will ever see the light of the day again, even if Bayern refuse to make his current deal permanent.
