£17m player now set to ignore interest from Manchester City

Chelsea No.29 Ian Maatsen has now decided to ignore interest from Manchester City to pursue a move to Borussia Dortmund.

That is according to sources from HITC Football.

So, what is the situation involving Manchester City and Ian Maatsen? Let’s take a look…

Maatsen set to ignore Manchester City

Well – according to Graeme Bailey of HITC Football – the Dutchman is now set to snub Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund.

A story from TEAMtalk in November stated that Manchester City were expected to be fronting the queue to sign Maatsen as he enters the final 18 months of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Now – however – the Netherlands U21 international has opted to leave England.

It comes after BILD in Germany claimed that advanced talks were taking place over a £17m deal between Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund.

That is a real shame for Pep Guardiola, as Maatsen is a huge talent who can operate in a number of areas down the left flank and also centrally – the Spaniard loves full backs who can invert themselves.

The 21-year-old earned a spot in the Championship Team of the Year while on loan at Burnley last season, and has been treated harshly by Mauricio Pochettino this term with just one Premier League start to his name.

Guardiola seemingly wants one specific position

Interest in Maatsen was intriguing, as he is not the only left-sided player Manchester City have been linked with.

As Josko Gvardiol struggles on the left – away from his natural position in the centre – Manchester City have been linked with moves for Bayern Munich No.19 Alphonso Davies and Barcelona No.3 Alejandro Balde.

One story even claimed that Barcelona could include Balde in a swap deal involving Joao Cancelo.

Therefore, we certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see Manchester City sign a new left-back this month, or in the summer.
