£60m Premier League star should be Man City’s top transfer target ahead of next season

A £60m Premier League star could be available to sign next summer, and the player should go straight to the top of Man City’s transfer list if that is the case.

The most recent transfer window was a very successful one for Man City, as Hugo Viana strengthened many areas in Pep Guardiola’s squad, such as the goalkeeper position (Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford), defenders (Rayan Ait-Nouri) and more attack-minded players (Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders).

Right-back remains an area of concern at Man City, and that will likely be addressed next summer, but there is another key area of the pitch that will also need attention.

One of the Premier League’s best midfielders may be on the market next summer, and Man City should be ready to pounce.

Adam Wharton should be top of Man City’s transfer list

The next summer is set to be a big one when it comes to the number six position in the Premier League, as many clubs will look to add a player to this role in their teams next summer, reports The Telegraph.

Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton will be the prime targets for clubs, two players Man City have been linked with in the past.

The report states Man City could sign a new number six next summer as Guardiola may be keen to ease the workload of 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, who has returned from a serious knee injury this season.

If that is the case, Wharton should be top of the Manchester club’s transfer list heading into next summer, as the 21-year-old is an incredible talent and is regarded as one of the most technically gifted players in the English top flight at present.

Man City have been monitoring Wharton for months, and it was recently reported that the Crystal Palace star could be signed for around £60m, which may reduce next summer as more time passes.

Given his age, talent, price, and Premier League experience, the signing of Wharton would make a lot of sense for Man City, and he can even play as an eight should Rodri stay at the Etihad Stadium for a few more years.

What is happening with Rodri’s future

Rodri is currently focused on getting back to his best at Man City as he continues his journey back from the ACL injury he suffered last season.

However, the Spaniard is out of contract in 2027, and Real Madrid remain interested in the 29-year-old, with reports in Spain recently stating that Rodri is in no rush to sign a new Man City contract.

Man City have begun talks with Rodri over a new deal, but it remains to be seen if they can come to an agreement to keep the player beyond 2027.

If an agreement cannot be reached, this would make the signing of Wharton even more of a priority, but either way, Man City should be all over the Crystal Palace star next summer.
