Manchester City are very close to agreeing a new contract with another key member of Pep Guardiola’s squad.
The summer transfer window was a very busy one for the Manchester club as Gianluigi Donnarumma’s arrival at Man City was one of seven new faces to be added to Guardiola’s squad. In addition to this, outgoings also had to be facilitated, leaving little room for contract negotiations.
The plan for the Premier League giants was to hand out new deals once their transfer dealings were complete, with Ruben Dias being the first to sign a new Man City contract, which keeps him at the club until 2029.
Some surprising news has now emerged out of the Etihad Stadium, as it is being reported that City are close to agreeing a new deal with a player Guardiola described as ‘extraordinary’, but also one who wanted to leave the club before the season began.

Savinho close to a new Man City contract
Tottenham pushed hard for Savinho during the summer transfer window, as the Brazilian star is a player Thomas Frank is a big fan of.
The 21-year-old was believed to be open to the move as it would guarantee him minutes throughout the 2025/26 season, which would aid his chances of making it into the Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Therefore, it will surprise many to hear that Man City are close to agreeing a new contract with Savinho, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that talks are at an advanced stage.
According to The Athletic, the new deal will keep the Brazilian at Man City until 2031, and although it has not been confirmed, it will very likely see Savinho receive a pay rise on his current £50k-per-week salary.
It is clear that the Brazilian is a player the Manchester club are planning their future around, given how hard they have fought to keep him over the last few weeks, and the winger is not the only star set for a new deal.
Other Man City stars set for a new contract
Once the deal for Savinho is official, Man City will look to secure new terms for Phil Foden, whose current contract expires in 2027. The midfielder is currently in top form, and given his importance to Guardiola, the 25-year-old is not a player the Spaniard will want to lose anytime soon.
In addition to Foden, Man City are also in talks with John Stones over a new contract; however, due to his age and injury problems, the Manchester club are unwilling to commit to anything more than a one-year extension.
Rodri and Josko Gvardiol are also on City’s list of people that need new deals, with the Spaniard being another star the Premier League club will be keen to tie down, as Real Madrid continue to show an interest in the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.
