Newcastle United have been one of the most-talked about clubs in the Premier League this summer.

With Manchester City beating Newcastle to James Trafford’s signing, the Magpies failed in their pursuit to complete the acquisition of a player they were linked to for months.

Similarly, Liverpool’s hunt to sign Alexander Isak, with journalist David Ornstein revealing the player has refused to play for Eddie Howe’s side again unless he is deemed for sale to the Reds.

Manchester City look set to make a move that could further frustrate Newcastle.

Man City’s Gianluigi Donnarumma pursuit could frustrate Newcastle after James Trafford saga

With Manchester City contacting PSG to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma to replace Ederson, Newcastle would understandably be angered as the Sky Blues signed James Trafford over them.

Considering Donnarumma was arguably Europe’s most in-form goalkeeper last season, he would likely become City’s number one from the get-go if he made the move to the Etihad Stadium — leading to the Englishman playing second fiddle.

Newcastle offered £27 million to sign Trafford, which suggests he would have been their starting goalkeeper.

However, Manchester City matched their bid due to inserting a buyback clause when initially selling the 22-year-old to Burnley, they ended up getting their hands on the youngster.

Instead, Newcastle had to resort to signing Aaron Ramsdale on loan from Southampton, a quality goalkeeper but one who has not operated at the same standard since leaving Arsenal last year.

Pep Guardiola has always admired Donnarumma, which further boosts his chances of being the true heir to Ederson instead of Trafford if he departs the French capital to join Manchester City.

Man City’s chances of making shock Tino Livramento signing

With Gianluigi Donnarumma having performed at world-class levels for club and country in the past, Guardiola would perhaps opt for his experience in between the sticks if he signed him this summer.

This summer, the patience of decision-makers within St. James’ Park has been tested to the limit, with targets such as Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo and Hugo Ekitike joining other clubs.

However, Tino Livramento is set to extend his contract at Newcastle, which could be their way of exacting revenge on Manchester City as they had set their sights on signing him.

As a result, Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis look set to battle it out for the starting right-back spot next season unless a potential shock move similar to Manchester City’s pursuit of Rodrygo develops.
