Alan Shearer says £51m Man City player is actually the best in the world in one area

Manchester City have got off to a flyer this season by winning both of their first two games in the Premier League in convincing fashion.

Recently, Kyle Walker had his say on the title race and questioned why City cannot win five successive titles in a row — a feat he sorely believes will not be matched by any other team in Premier League history.

It seems like Walker’s message has been passed on to the Manchester City players who seemed hungry to put their names into the history books of English football once again.

Unlike Liverpool, who struggled in the first half against Ipswich Town, Pep Guardiola’s men taught them a footballing lesson.

After Sammie Szmodics’ opener, the Sky Blues put the visitors to the sword at the Etihad Stadium as they won their first league game at home in style.

Shearer makes big claim about Erling Haaland as Man City thrash Ipswich

Erling Haaland looked like a man possessed against Kieran McKenna’s side.

The ease with which Haaland scored a pressure penalty, darted past Arijanet Muric to score his second of the day and place the ball into the bottom corner from distance was astounding.

The £51 million’s tremendous display vindicated the general consensus about him being the favourite to win the Golden Boot for the third Premier League campaign in a row.

During the latest episode of The Rest Is Football podcast, Gary Lineker quizzed Alan Shearer about his thoughts on the Norwegian.

Shearer claimed that Haaland is the best goalscorer in the world bar none.

The pundit said: “Yeah, he’s phenomenal. Whatever word you want to use, ridiculous, fantastic, amazing, all these. That’s what he is. His numbers are off the charts.”

“Yes, he’s got a genius as a manager, yes, he’s playing in a brilliant team with great players but he’s still got to put the ball in the back of the net and at the minute, there’s no one better than him in world football at doing that.”

“He’s a phenomenon, he’s absolutely fantastic.”

Haaland should back himself to break his own Premier League goal record

Pep Guardiola claimed Haaland looks “sharper” this season — stressing that he feels fully-fit unlike during the previous campaign and is even practicing his heading and first touch after training.

With the 24-year-old already having scored four goals in two games, as well as with Kevin De Bruyne being injury-free and Ilkay Gundogan returning to City, he should back himself to break his own record of scoring the most goals in a single Premier League season (36).

The Leeds-born striker has started the season on fire and with how he has shattered goal records since signing for Manchester City, he has no reason to doubt himself to do so.

Haaland is a special goalscorer and as long as he stays injury-free, it would be brave for any fan or pundit to put a cap on the number of goals he could muster up this season.

With the two-time Premier League winner perhaps feeling immensely confident as well, he is seemingly in the right headspace to have yet another unforgettable season in England.
