Ilkay Gundogan raves about Rodri and John Stones’ FA Cup heroics against Manchester United

Branded as the ‘Player of the Match’ by Gael Clichy, the English defender’s showing took many fans and pundits alike’s breaths away.

While Roy Keane also lauded the Spanish defensive midfielder after his display on Saturday afternoon, describing him as ‘an amazing player.’

Ilkay Gundogan, who reacted to his side tasting their second piece of silverware of the season by defeating Manchester United was especially complimentary towards the Manchester City duo of Rodri and John Stones.

“I feel like we did well in the first half. But we could have done better. And I think the way we played in the second was amazing, we find the right spaces. I think Rodri and John specially, they made it amazing in the middle.”

The Manchester City pair were immaculate

Ilkay Gundogan is right in pinpointing the dynamic duo’s impact as a major difference between Manchester City and Manchester United on the day.

The manner in which the pair recycled possession and dictated the game, dovetailing between each other at centre-back and in defensive midfield was masterful.

In such high-octane affairs, one demands their central midfielders to take control of the game and dictate the tempo of such contests and the duo certainly did that with aplomb.

Manchester United simply could not get near either Rodri or John Stones, as they were made to sit back and watch a lesson in midfield dominance by both.
