Marc Casado came through the ranks at Barcelona and as a result, he realises what it takes to play for them.
Casado has become a regular starter at his boyhood club under Hansi Flick this season as well.
Pep Guardiola possesses plenty of stalwarts within his ranks who are perhaps best-equipped out of most other players in Europe to play for Barcelona.
While Guardiola’s tactics change from season to season and even based on the opposition, his principles remain inspired by Johan Cruyff’s approach to football.
As a result, the footballing education that the players have received under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage at Manchester City is similar to that of Barcelona players — both at La Masia and in their senior side.
Barcelona star claimed he would sign Erling Haaland if he was Deco
The Spanish giants have signed several players from City over the years and perhaps a key reason for that being the case is due to the overlap in footballing philosophies between both clubs.
The likes of Eric Garcia, Sergio Aguero, Ferran Torres and Ilkay Gundogan have all made move to Barcelona in recent years due to this being the case.
The common trait shared by all the aforementioned players was that they were managed by Pep Guardiola.
With that being the case, La Liga’s heavyweights perhaps felt they would not take much time to adapt to their style of play.
Speaking to journalist Gerard Romero on Twitch, Casado claimed that if he was Barcelona sporting director Deco, he would sign Erling Haaland.
“If I were Deco for a day, I’d sign [Erling] Haaland.”
Pedri also named Haaland as his dream signing for Barcelona in January.
Haaland would have no reason to sign for Barcelona
Alan Shearer described Haaland as “ridiculous” and looking at the current Blaugrana side, he could slot into the team seamlessly.
However, while Manchester City look like strong contenders to win every available trophy to them, the same cannot be said for Barcelona.
Hansi Flick’s side have started the season impressively.
But Real Madrid remain the favourites to win La Liga and in the Champions League, Carlo Ancelotti’s side as well as City look better-placed to perform better than them and potentially even go the distance.
As a result, Haaland would perhaps not consider many, if any club a step-up from where he is currently playing his football.
