Manchester City have faced off against numerous top clubs in Europe over the past 15 years.
In addition to coming up against some of the best European sides on the pitch, City have also been involved in several deals to buy and sell players to a range of clubs across the top five leagues.
For example, in this current summer transfer window, Pep Guardiola’s side have signed Savinho from Troyes and sold Sergio Gomez to Real Sociedad.
Now though, some behind-the-scenes details have come to light regarding a club who City have played in the Champions League previously and how they feel about being able to land a deal for one of the key figures in the City squad.

Atletico Madrid feel optimistic they can sign Julian Alvarez from Man City this summer
A recent report from ESPN had this to say on the matter.
It said: “Atletico Madrid are growing more optimistic over the prospect of signing Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez as the key part of Diego Simeone’s revamped lineup, sources told ESPN.
“In the last hours, Atleti has made progress with representatives of the Argentina international and are confident that he is inclined to join the club, sources said, which would make negotiations with Man City easier.
“The agreement for the player, whose signing is seen as a priority, would consist of five seasons and a fee that could reach €60 million ($65.5m) if Man City agree to head to the bargaining table.
“That’s not a price tag Atleti are used to paying, but the club would be willing to make an exception in this instance for Simeone.”
City would need to find a replacement for Alvarez if they sell him to Atletico
Despite featuring in more Premier League games (36) than any other City player last season, Alvarez, who Ally McCoist dubbed “superb” (via TNT Sports) back in September, recently admitted that he didn’t like being left out of some of the biggest games of the campaign.
Having scored 19 goals and delivered 13 assists in 54 appearances across all competitions last season, whilst playing in numerous positions, we feel that if City were to sell the Argentine to Atletico this summer for a significant fee, they would need to find a suitable replacement who is just as versatile at capable of providing goal contributions.
