Chris Sutton says one Man City player was utterly useless vs Everton

Manchester City picked up a much-needed win against Everton on Saturday as they won 2-0 against the Toffees.

City picked up a win in their final ever visit to Goodison Park, despite the fact Rio Ferdinand expected Everton to get a result here.

Pep Guardiola’s side came away with all three points, but the performance wasn’t much to shout about.

Indeed, in a season of flat showings from City, this was up there with the most drab.

The two late goals sealed the win, but, for most of the match, City were uninspired.

Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live, Chris Sutton laid into one City player in particular, claiming that Bernardo Silva was terrible on the day.

Chris Sutton slams Bernardo Silva

Sutton was very cutting with his verdict on Silva in this game.

The pundit called for Silva to be subbed in the second-half, claiming that City looked as though they were playing with 10 men at times.

“I’m sorry, but he has to take Bernardo Silva off. Great player, but it’s literally like playing with 10 men. He offers absolutely nothing off the right,” Sutton said.

Pep Guardiola did eventually make a change, bringing Savinho off for Jeremy Doku, a sub that Sutton couldn’t quite understand.

“I cannot believe Pep has taken Savinho off and not Bernardo Silva,” Sutton said, via the BBC.

“Silva has offered nothing this afternoon. He’s been a great player in the past, but he doesn’t have the legs to go past people anymore.

“Savinho has caused far more of a threat than Silva. Saying that, Silva will more than likely score the winner now.”

Bernardo Silva stats vs Everton

Sutton says that Silva offered nothing against Everton, and he’s not wrong.

Bernardo Silva is one of the best players around when he’s fit, firing and in form, but, this season, he simply hasn’t been at it.

Silva has been consistently criticised for his performances, and, once again, on Saturday, he looked miles off his best.

No shots, no key passes, no dribbles, no impact.

The stat sheet tells the whole story, Silva let the game drift by him on Saturday, and while City rescued a win late on, this was very nearly another missed opportunity.

City need to qualify for the Champions League next season, and Silva needs to step up if that is to happen.
