Liverpool are arguably having the best transfer window of any club in world football at present.
Having ended Man City’s run of four Premier League titles in a row last season, the Reds seem very keen to remain on top of the English game with their business ahead of the 25/26 campaign.
Liverpool beat Man City to Florian Wirtz, and there is potential that Alexander Isak moves to Anfield over the coming weeks, as the Merseyside club have made it clear to Newcastle that they are interested in signing their star man.
This would make winning the Premier League very hard for Man City, but it could be worse, as back in January, Liverpool turned down the opportunity to sign a player who is now crucial to Pep Guardiola ahead of the new season.

Liverpool had the opportunity to sign Omar Marmoush
Omar Marmoush enjoyed the best season of his career last time around as the Egyptian starred for Eintracht Frankfurt during the first half of the campaign, which captured the attention of several big clubs around Europe.
This prompted Man City to sign the 26-year-old as part of a £59m deal with Frankfurt in January, but according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Liverpool turned down the opportunity to sign the player during the latest winter window.
“It’s a pursuit that’s organic, and we’ll see if it comes to fruition or not,” Ornstein said on The Athletic FC Podcast about Liverpool’s interest in Isak. “It would be very interesting because Liverpool tend not to spend that sort of money for that age profile. Isak is 25, not too long until he’ll be 26.
“They had opportunities to sign players, I think, in January, like a Marmoush, for example, who was the same age at the time that Isak is now 25, and they didn’t push to the sort of financial limits Manchester City were prepared to go to.”
Given the money Liverpool had in reserve, the Reds could have easily signed Marmoush in January, especially when Arne Slot’s men were sitting comfortably at the top of the Premier League.
Marmoush has also admitted that Mohamed Salah is his role model; therefore, one call from the Egyptian superstar would have convinced him to become part of the Merseyside club.
Luckily for Man City, that call never came, and now it is impossible for the forward to play anywhere other than the Etihad Stadium over the next few years, as Guardiola views Marmoush as untouchable.
How Omar Marmoush compares to Luis Diaz
Had Marmoush moved to Liverpool in January, the Egyptian would very likely have taken over from Luis Diaz as the Colombian was deployed as a left winger and a false nine by Slot last season, two roles the Man City star is more than capable of doing.
However, given how highly regarded Diaz is at Anfield, that is very likely the reason the Premier League champions never made the move for Marmoush, in addition to his price and age.
| Player | Games | Goals | Assists | Minutes |
| Omar Marmoush | 51 | 28 | 17 | 3769 |
| Luis Diaz | 50 | 17 | 8 | 3336 |
There is not much difference between the two players in terms of quality; however, it is clear that the Egyptian is more effective in the final third, going off last season’s numbers.
Only time will tell if Liverpool have made a mistake by not signing Marmoush in January, and the early signs certainly indicate that they have.
