Mikel has said that De Bruyne is a joy to watch now. The former Chelsea star has admitted that he did not think that the Belgian would go on to this good.
The pundit played with De Bruyne at Chelsea. The Belgium international was on the books of Blues from 2012 until 2014 and struggled to make an impact before moving to VfL Wolfsburg.
The Belgian midfielder joined City in 2015 for £55 million (BBC Sport), and, as they say, the rest is history.
De Bruyne has made 243 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. The midfielder has scored 64 goals and given 102 assists in those games.
Mikel John Obi said on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel when asked if he thought that Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne would be as good as he is now after leaving Chelsea: “No, definitely not, especially Kevin De Bruyne.
“We thought when he left and went to Wolfsburg, ‘Okay, that’s it’. But I think that’s when it all started.
“You could see the changes in his game, he started to play much much better. I don’t know what happened there, but when you look at him today, a joy to watch.”

In my view, Manchester City and Belgium international midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is a Premier League legend.
There are even suggestions that De Bruyne is the greatest ever midfielder to have played in the Premier League.
The 32-year-old is injured at the moment, but I have no doubt that when he is back to full match fitness, he will get into the starting lineup straightway.
Despite being in his early 30s, the former Chelsea player is at the top of his game and is able to affect games.
I believe that City are a better team with De Bruyne in it. The Belgian has a brilliant on-pitch relationship with Erling Haaland.
