Boca Juniors No.21 Ezequiel Fernandez could end up at Manchester City after an initial stint at Girona within the City Football Group.

That is according to El Crack Deportivo.

So, what was said about Ezequiel Fernandez and Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

Ezequiel Fernandez could join Manchester City

Well, Manchester City have already dipped into the South American market this month with the £26m signing of Claudio Echeverri from River Plate.

Now – according to El Crack Deportivo – a player from River Plate’s bitter rivals Boca Juniors could end up at the Etihad Stadium.

The Argentinian news outlet believe the City Football Group are expressing interest in a deal for Fernandez, with the initial plan involving a stint at Girona – where one Manchester City player is performing very well in Yan Couto.

Journalist Jonathan Riniti said: “The jewel of Boca that Girona wants is Equi Fernandez, who have been following him for some time and is considering presenting an offer to Juan Roman Riquelme.

“The City Group would buy him for the Spanish team, but if he’s doing well, I do not rule out that he ends up at Manchester City.”

We would expect that to happen as well – especially as Brazilian winger Savinho looks set to officially become a Manchester City player after impressing at Girona.

Who is Ezequiel Fernandez?

The Argentina U23 international operates in defensive midfield for Boca Juniors, and has emerged as one of the brightest talents in South America.

Fernandez – aged just 21 – has already been compared to Chelsea No.8 Enzo Fernandez by ESPN, who mention that both midfielders are “bristling with quality” as they manage to combine defensive steel with classy attacking abilities.

Liverpool No.10 Alexis Mac Allister even advised Brighton to sign the Boca Juniors wonderkid when speaking to TyC Sports.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation – if the City Football Group end up signing Fernandez and he continues his current trajectory, a move to Manchester City surely beckons.
