‘Don’t want to overpay’: Fabrizio Romano says Man City are wary of paying too much for ‘incredible’ player

It has been reported that Manchester City have no intention to pay over the odds to seal a transfer for Lucas Paqueta.

This comes from Fabrizio Romano, after it was claimed on Thursday that West Ham United were demanding in excess of £85 million to sanction his sale.

But it seems like Manchester City will not simply bow down to the Hammers’ demands just because Lucas Paqueta has caught their eye.

Fabrizio Romano: Manchester City do not want to overpay for Lucas Paqueta transfer

Branded as ‘incredible’ by Declan Rice (via Evening Standard), the 25-year-old is attracting interest from Pep Guardiola, who is believed to have ‘always been a fan’ of his.

Similarly, it has also been revealed on Wednesday that the Brazilian international is keen on a move to the Etihad Stadium as well.

Now, it has been revealed that Manchester City do aim to overpay just to get a deal over the line for Lucas Paqueta.

However, the Sky Blues are currently preparing yet another verbal approach to discover if they can get any closer to signing him.

Manchester City should not get bullied by West Ham

Much like the case was during their interest in Declan Rice, while Manchester City are justified in appreciating how much Lucas Paqueta could add to their side, they should know when to pull out of the deal when the asking price is excessive for them.

City have a tendency not to be subservient in such dealings and instead, back their eye for talent and Guardiola’s tactical ingenuity not to set a poor precedent for themselves by simply agreeing to splash the cash.

Ultimately, this policy is one of the multiple reasons why Manchester City stay ahead of the rest in the transfer market.

If a deal for Lucas Paqueta seems far too above the club’s budget to do so, they should simply not waste their time and look elsewhere immediately.
