Manchester City are on the hunt to win another Premier League title and break another significant record.

Last season saw City become the first team to win four Premier League trophies in a row.

On the final day of the campaign, Pep Guardiola’s side secured a 3-1 win over West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium to finish two points above Arsenal in second place and win the title.

Having now beaten the Gunners to the title two times in a row, the Blues have started their latest campaign on a strong note.

With six matches played, City have won four and drawn two, bagging 14 goals and conceding six along the way.

One big blow the Manchester club have been dealt recently though came during their 2-2 draw with Arsenal where Rodri suffered a knee injury which will keep him out of action for the rest of the season.

This has since led to one former top-flight star having his say on how this injury blow has impacted the race for the Premier League title.

Emmanuel Petit makes Premier League title race claim after Man City’s injury blow to Rodri

Appearing in a recent video shared on the talkSPORT YouTube channel, Emmanuel Petit said this when asked if Arsenal are capable of winning either the Premier League or Champions League this season.

He said: “They have to win something this season at least because of the work they’ve done for the last two, three seasons.

“For the players, for the staff, for everyone, I think it’s important to win something at the end of the season.

“I wish them the best of luck for both competitions but since Rodri is injured, I think City are on the same line as Liverpool and Arsenal for the race for the title.”

What has Pep Guardiola said about the impact of Rodri’s injury?

Aside from using some of the current players in his squad to fill in for the injured Spaniard, Guardiola has recently said that he has spoken with Txiki Begiristain about potentially signing a new midfielder in January to replace Rodri.

It was then reported that City have identified Torino’s Samuele Ricci as a potential transfer target for the January window to help solve their Rodri problem.

After rescuing a point in the game against Arsenal, the Blues have since gone on to beat Watford 2-1 in the Carabao Cup and Slovan Bratislava 4-0 in the Champions League.

While Guardiola’s side may not have missed Rodri in those games, they certainly will at other stages of the season when they take on tough opposition.

Now that Petit has claimed that Rodri’s injury has levelled the playing field for the Premier League title race, everyone in City’s squad will have to step up and make sure they don’t get into a habit of dropping points.
