Manchester City head into uncharted territory this weekend as they look to stop the rot and avoid a fifth consecutive defeat when they host Tottenham Hotspur.
Four losses on the bounce is the worst run of Pep Guardiola’s managerial career, but a two-week pause in fixtures for the international break and the confirmation that the boss has signed a new deal will hopefully be the catalyst to turn things around.
Spurs are the visitors to the Etihad for Saturday’s tea-time Premier League clash, as City get the opportunity to avenge last month’s Carabao Cup defeat to Ange Postecoglou’s side, which began this recent barren run.
Erling Haaland spent the break with Norway doing what he does best, netting once in his country’s 4-1 win over Slovenia, before plundering a hat-trick in a 5-0 thrashing of Kazakhstan in a performance the media branded ‘merciless’.

Erling Haaland on Pep Guardiola’s reaction to losing run
The international break appeared to come at a good time for City, as it allowed their injured and fatigued squad members time to recover, while it also gave the manager the opportunity to take stock an assess what has gone wrong recently.
And Guardiola’s reaction to the losing streak has not gone unnoticed by Haaland, who has outlined what the Catalan has been doing behind the scenes at City.

“He’s been calm,” Haaland told Sky Sports. “We just need to continue. We just need to do our best because in the end you can’t do more than your best.
“So he demands a lot. He demands us to be at our best in every training, in every game.
“And that’s what we need to do. It hasn’t been good enough losing four games now but let’s try to win the next. Let’s focus on the training today, the training tomorrow and then the game.”
Guardiola has Haaland’s ‘full trust’
The forward has also given his full backing to Guardiola, insisting that he will quickly turn around their poor run of results
“When you look at what he’s been doing for the club, he’s not bad, is he? So he’s got my full trust. And if he tells me something, I’d better do it because he knows the best in the end.
“Everyone knows that. So I’m sure he will find solutions now as well. I’m sure of that.”
Man City need to get back on track quickly
While only 11 games have been played in the Premier League and Manchester City are no strangers to digging out early-season deficits, the club have some key fixtures coming up, including a scary December clash.

Spurs have been a tricky opponent for City in recent years, while the club are in action again on Tuesday when they host Feyenoord in the Champions League.
City then visit Anfield to take on Premier League leaders Liverpool in perhaps their biggest game of the season so far, while there are also matches against Juventus, Manchester United and Aston Villa to come before Christmas.
