Ahead of the 2025/2026 season, fans and pundits alike will be predicting whether Erling Haaland or Viktor Gyokeres will score more goals in the upcoming campaign.
History favours Haaland, who Pep Guardiola compared to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as a goalscorer — bagging 300 career goals before turning 25 recently.
However, Viktor Gyokeres set the world alight at Sporting CP — scoring 97 goals in 102 games before earning a summer move to Arsenal.
While the Swedish striker’s goalscoring prowess cannot be called into question, Erling Haaland has cemented his status as an elite number nine in the Premier League already.

Jan Aage Fjortoft predicts Erling Haaland to outscore Viktor Gyokeres
Diego Forlan hinted Haaland is better than Gyokeres as the debate looks set to be one that will rage on unless one of the two marksmen outperforms the other by a distance.
The Manchester City phenom was famously compared to Darwin Nunez when both players made their way to the Premier League but the Norwegian made a mockery of such parallels by letting his feet do the talking.
Jan Aage Fjortoft, Haaland’s long-time friend and mentor has claimed on ESPN FC that while Gyokeres is a brilliant signing for Arsenal, he will not outscore the two-time Premier League winner, saying: “I’m 100 per cent sure that Haaland will score 30 goals again, he will do that. Gyokeres, I think there’s a great signing for Arsenal but it’s interesting, I will offend the Arsenal fans a bit now. I’ve been doing a bit of studying on that player, have a look at who he scored his goals against. That will be a big worry for the Arsenal fans. But I think they’ve got the type of player that Arsenal need and with better players around him, he will score more goals.”
“But I will say straightaway, has no chance to score the numbers that Erling Haaland will score in the coming season.”

Only time will tell which out of the two strikers fares better next season.
With Haaland being happy at Manchester City and extending his contract until 2034, he will be determined to lead the Sky Blues to the title and vanquish Arsenal and Liverpool in the process.
On the other hand, Gyokeres will be determined to make an impression at the Emirates Stadium in his debut season.
Based on the previous campaign, the former Sporting number nine has the edge over the Leeds-born finisher.

Considering Gyokeres scored 20 more goals than Haaland in the previous campaign, some would consider Jan Aage Fjortoft’s prediction rather bold.
However, writing the two-time Premier League Golden Boot winner off would be naive, considering he has bagged 86 goals in three seasons in England.
The same applies to Gyokeres, who is one of Europe’s most feared goal-getters.
