Manchester City are closing in on their fifth signing of the summer transfer window.

Pep Guardiola was keen to add four to five new faces to his squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign after experiencing a tough season last time around, and the Manchester club have already hit that target, and more are expected to follow.

A right back is next on Man City’s list, but before that, the Premier League giants will look to wrap up a £12.5m deal.

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the new Man City signing, with the transfer journalist revealing what is set to happen next week.

Sverre Nypan to have his Man City medical on Monday

It was reported this week that Man City reached an agreement with Rosenborg to sign Sverre Nypan for a transfer fee of £12.5m (€14.6m), which has no further contingencies or sell-on clauses.

The signing is seen as a big coup for the Manchester club as Arsenal and Martin Odegaard tried to convince Nypan to move to North London, while Aston Villa were also in the race.

However, Man City have come out on top, and according to Romano, all the documents for the deal have now been signed, with the 18-year-old’s medical set to take place on Monday.

The transfer journalist believes the midfielder is a “top signing” for the Manchester club, while also stating that there is a “clear plan” in place for Nypan’s long-term development.

It will be a few more years before the best of the Norwegian talent is seen at Man City, as the midfielder is set to go out on loan straight away once his move to the Etihad Stadium is made official.

How Man City plan to develop Sverre Nypan

It has been widely reported that Nypan will spend the 2025/26 campaign out on loan, with Romano reporting this week that the new Man City star will not be going to Girona, who are part of the City Football Group.

The La Liga club is where most fans expected the midfielder to go to develop further, and although the reason for this has not been made public, it could be a result of the Spanish league coming a bit too soon for the 18-year-old.

It is key that Nypan joins a club where he will get regular minutes, as that is the most important thing for his development, but where that is remains to be seen. But for now, City fans can be excited that they have just landed one of the best talents in Europe.
