Manchester City have been linked with Dani Olmo – and there has been an interesting development with the Spain international today.
Manchester City have not been active in the transfer market so far this summer.
But there is a feeling that that will change very soon, with the two major tournaments – Euro 2024 and the Copa America – coming to an end very soon.
City have been linked with Dani Olmo recently and it is thought that the club might seek to sign the RB Leipzig star. Should they do so, then it will have been two summers in a row that City have raided the German side for a player, after Josko Gvardiol joined last year.
City officials are said to have some reservations about the player’s injury record. But the club could still make a move regardless.
Today, there has been an interesting development with Olmo – and it concerns his release clause.
RB Leipzig push back Dani Olmo release clause expiry date, amid Man City interest

Olmo has really impressed out in Germany at Euro 2024.
The 26-year-old did not start the first two group-stage games, and also came off the bench against Georgia in the Round of 16. But Olmo still has the most goal contributions of any player at the tournament with five (three goals, two assists).
Olmo has been really good, and he will surely pose a big threat to England this Sunday in the final in Berlin.
The world will be watching, and one man who could be a very interested spectator is Pep Guardiola, who is said to appreciate the player. The City boss will surely be tuning in, with four of his players – Rodri, John Stones, Kyle Walker and Phil Foden – set to feature.
The fact Spain made it to the final has actually prompted RB Leipzig to do something quite interesting with Olmo.
Fabrizio Romano said on X this morning: “Key detail on Dani Olmo: following Spain access to Euro 2024 final, the release clause will be valid until July 20 and no longer July 15.
“There was this specific factor on the clause due to the Euros, now formally approved. Clause worth €60m, several clubs interested.”
Leipzig seemingly want to give clubs a chance
So Leipzig have apparently pushed back the date of when Olmo’s release clause will expire, which is an interesting move.
This may well suggest that the Bundesliga outfit are looking for a club to trigger it, and are giving suitors longer to make their move by dangling the carrot for longer.
Or perhaps Leipzig are hopeful that Olmo will shine in Sunday’s final against England, to prompt more clubs to come forward and trigger that release clause.
It will be interesting to see if City will be one such club willing to pay the £51 million. Olmo is undoubtedly a fantastic talent, and it does feel as though he is now ready for a move to a bigger club after a few years at Leipzig.
The injury record is not ideal. But City might just be willing to take the risk.
