Manchester City secured their first home win of the new Premier League season on Saturday as they beat Ipswich Town 4-1.
Prior to that, City secured a 2-0 away win against Chelsea, meaning that the champions have now won both of their opening league games of the season.
In fact, Pep Guardiola’s side are sat at the top of the league table on goal difference above Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal and Liverpool who have also won both of their two league matches.
Following this latest win over Kieran McKenna’s side, one figure in City’s squad found himself on the end of some significant praise from a pundit who knows what it takes to play in the top flight.

Gabby Agbonlahor hails Erling Haaland after Ipswich Town performance
In a recent video shared on the talkSPORT YouTube channel where he was going through his Team of the Week picks, Gabby Agboblahor had this to say about Erling Haaland’s performance against Ipswich.
He said: “To get a hat-trick again to start the season, four goals out of two games, is he going to start breaking records that he set himself for how many goals he scored in the Premier League in one season?
“I thought the way he took his first goal and last goal, for his penalty you would expect him to score, but his first goal to make that run, it’s his run that gives [Kevin] De Bruyne the chance to put him through and to take that early finish.
Also, his third goal, you know, the keeper probably thought Haaland doesn’t shoot from there, Haaland doesn’t shoot from the edge of the box, to get that short amount of space, to get the most accurate with pace shot into the corner just shows he can score every type of goal.
“He’s not just a tap-in merchant that people try and label him as. He can score every goal, and I think it’s another outstanding performance.”
Haaland showed his class against Ipswich
Agbonlahor isn’t the only pundit to pick the City striker in his Team of the Week, as Troy Deeney described Haaland as a “monster” after choosing him to be in his team for BBC Sport.
After scoring his first goal of the campaign against Chelsea, the Norwegian followed that up by bagging his tenth City hat-trick against the Tractors as Agbonlahor mentioned.
Given how different each of his three goals were on Saturday, this backs up Agbonlahor’s point about the 24-year-old being able to score every type of goal.
