The futures of several Man City stars are yet to be decided ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The Premier League giants are currently in the process of trying to move members of Pep Guardiola’s squad on as the legendary coach has made it clear he does not want to work with a big group over the next 12 months.

It was recently reported that Man City are open to deals for John Stones, Nico O’Reilly, Mateo Kovacic, Ilkay Gundogan, Claudio Echeverri and Oscar Bobb ahead of the current transfer window shutting.

However, Galatasaray have enquired about a player that the Manchester club did not have plans to part ways with this summer, and it remains to be seen if the Turkish giants can get a deal done.

Man City fans want Manuel Akanji sold this summer

Guardiola confirmed in March that Manuel Akanji would remain at Man City for the upcoming season, but that is now about to be tested.

It was reported on Friday that Galatasaray have enquired about Akanji’s availability and that the Turkish club are willing to make a move for the £15m defender if he is willing to reduce his current salary.

The Swiss star had a poor season last time around, and as a result, Man City fans are hoping to see the centre-back go following this update on his future.

One Man City fan responded to the news of Akanji’s potential exit on X (formerly known as Twitter) by saying: “Upon all deals or transfers … this is what I wish goes through.”

Another supporter of the Manchester club added: “Akanji should accept the wage reduction if he loves Manchester City. He has constantly proven to shut down completely in some situations.”

A final Man City fan added: “Yesssssss. Greatest news I’ve heard all year. Please take Akanji away from my club.”

Manuel Akanji update is good news for Vitor Reis

Should Akanji leave Man City this summer, in addition to the uncertainty around Stones, this would be good news for January signing Vitor Reis.

Reis has been linked with a loan move out of Man City this summer; however, it remains to be seen if that will happen.

It has previously been reported that Man City want to keep Reis for the 2025/26 campaign, and if Akanji leaves for Galatasaray, that is more likely, while it would also allow the Brazilian youngster to get more gametime.

It is hard to know what the best approach is to developing the 19-year-old star as the centre-back would gain senior football experience out on loan, but should he stay at the Etihad Stadium, the youngster will get to learn Guardiola’s ways quicker.
