Man City fans believe club has ‘mishandled’ another ‘good player’ as £13m sale announced

This summer has been very busy in every department at Manchester City.

The arrival of Sverre Nypan at Man City has increased the total number of new signings added to Pep Guardiola’s squad to five, while the legendary coach has also seen major changes take place within his coaching staff, with Kolo Toure added this week, following Pepijn Lijnders and James French.

Over the coming weeks, the Manchester club’s main focus will be outgoings, as Guardiola made it clear towards the end of last season that he does not want to work with a big squad throughout the 2025/26 campaign.

Manchester City have just announced the exit of one midfielder, with many more set to follow the 22-year-old.

Maximo Perrone joins Como from Manchester City

Maximo Perrone joined Man City from Vélez Sarsfield in 2023, but the Argentine never made an impact at the Etihad Stadium, making just two appearances since his arrival.

The 22-year-old spent the 23/24 campaign on loan with Las Palmas, while last season, the midfielder played his football with Como in Serie A.

The Italian side were clearly impressed with Perrone as they have now signed the Man City star as part of a £13m (€15m) deal, which includes a 30% sell-on clause and a buy-back option, reports The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath.

Man City are selling Perrone for a lot less than they hoped, as the Manchester club were keen to receive at least £25m for the Argentina star.

The hope now is that the midfielder becomes very successful at Como, so that the 30% sell-on clause pays dividends further down the line.

City have been reacting to this news about Perrone following the announcement, and it’s fair to say that they would have liked to have seen the Argentine given a bigger chance to shine at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City fans believe Maximo Perrone never got a chance

It remains to be seen how Perrone’s career develops from here, but having been scared by Cole Palmer’s departure for Chelsea in 2023, Man City fans feel Perrone’s exit has also come too soon.

One Man City fan wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): “Never got a chance. Good luck.”

Another supporter of the Manchester club commented with something similar, stating: “Wanted this guy to have had a chance at City.”

A final Man City fan added on Perrone’s exit: “We truly mishandled Palmer. But this guy too has been mishandled.”

There are a lot of negatives attached to the sale of Perrone, and the only thing that may save it is if the Argentine does really well at Como and the Manchester club receive a large chunk of cash as part of their 30% sell-on clause.
