Rodri has lavished praise on to Phil Foden, when quizzed about whether he could replace Kevin De Bruyne in midfield during his long-term injury.
Speaking to the press (via Football Daily), the Spaniard gave his two cents on his teammate’s potential of stepping in the middle of the park for the Belgian, who Pep Guardiola confirmed on Tuesday is set to be out of action for three to four months.
Rodri believes Phil Foden is more then capable of excelling as a midfielder in general.
Rodri says Phil Foden is the ‘best player’ at Manchester City in between the lines
Branded as an ‘incredible player’ by Al-Ettifaq ace Jordan Henderson, many believe it is high-time for the 23-year-old to be playing in his natural position in midfield.
With Ilkay Gundogan’s exit and Kevin De Bruyne’s injury, it seems like there would be no better time to hand the Englishman the keys in the middle of the park.
Now, Rodri believes Phil Foden would be an asset anywhere he is deployed on the pitch.

“Phil, it’s not about Kev’s [Kevin De Bruyne’s] injury, he’s been playing two sides of the wing, in between the lines, as a false. I think as a player, he can play everywhere so let’s see.”
Rodri also went on to give Phil Foden a huge compliment, saying, “I think he is the best player we have in between the lines, turning and facing the goal. And when he plays there, I like him very much but also when he plays [as a] winger.”
“He’s very decisive because he gets goals, assists. So, it depends on the coach, where he decides to put him but he can do that role [in midfield] very easy because his talent can do it.”
Rodri is certainly spot on about Phil Foden as he is exceptional on the half-turn and in tight pockets, especially centrally.
